Birmingham's Golden Flake Snack Foods has introduced a new "energy" potato chip that it claims is the first of its kind on the market.
Boosted with caffeine and B vitamins, the NRG Phoenix Fury Potato Chip is being sold initially throughout the Southeast at convenience stores with plans of a rollout into supermarkets in the fall. Promotional materials warn that the chip, which underwent 18 months of research, are "hot" and are not recommended for children, women who are pregnant or nursing or those sensitive to caffeine.
It's being targeted to those "with active lifestyles, who work, play or study hard and look for a boost sometimes during the day," a press release said.
